Indoor Polar Panoramas Using a Rectified Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area Projection
نویسنده
چکیده
We present an algorithm for converting an indoor spherical panorama into a photograph with a simulated overhead view. The resulting image will have an extremely wide field of view covering 4π steradians of the spherical panorama. Our method provides the photographer the ability to shoot at the ground level and later post-process the pictures to get a fake bird’s eye view of the scene. We argue that our method complements the stereographic projection commonly used in polar panoramas. The stereographic projection works well in creating the “little planet” effect for outdoor panoramas; whereas our method is a well-suited counterpart for indoor panoramas.

Revolvable Indoor Panoramas Using a Rectified Azimuthal Projection
We present an algorithm for converting an indoor spherical panorama into a photograph with a simulated overhead view. The resulting image will have an extremely wide field of view covering up to 4π steradians of the spherical panorama. We argue that our method complements the stereographic projection commonly used in the “little planet” effect. The stereographic projection works well in creatin...
متن کاملAn Indoor Alternative to Stereographic Spherical Panoramas
The stereographic projection is a popular method for viewing spherical panoramas because of its ability to represent the scene as a “little planet” with a simulated overhead view. However, the stereographic projection does not work well for indoor scenes. In this paper, we present a method for producing a counterpart to the stereographic projection for indoor scenes. The main innovation of our ...
متن کاملExtending Adaptive Composite Map Projections with Wagner’s Transformation Method
Adaptive composite map projections transform projections as the user changes the scale of the web map. The equal-area version of the original adaptive map projection composite uses the Lambert azimuthal equal-area projection for regional maps, and three equal-area world projections, namely the Hammer, the Eckert-Greifendorff, and the quartic authalic projections. These three projections show po...
متن کاملMap Projections Minimizing Distance Errors
It is useful to have mathematical criteria for evaluating errors in map projections. The Chebyshev criterion for minimizing rms (root mean square) local scale factor errors for conformal maps has been useful in developing conformal map projections of continents. However, any local error criterion will be minimized ultimately by map projections with multiple interruptions. A disadvantage of inte...
متن کاملUniform spherical grids via equal area projection from the cube to the sphere
We construct an area preserving map from the cube to the unit sphere S, both centered at the origin. More precisely, each face Fi of the cube is first projected to a curved square Si of the same area, and then each Si is projected onto the sphere by inverse Lambert azimuthal equal area projection, with respect to the points situated at the intersection of the coordinate axes with S. This map is...
